Training
We had funding through Travellers Aid Trust to carry out modules 1 2 and 3 in chainsaw training. Please see course content, The course lasts approximately three days. Age 18-26 Years Old.
We were very pleased with the outcome, in total we have 7 qualifications in chainsaw units . Of this 7 there was an opportunity for two to go to a higher level with an extra three units, one of the participants took up the offer and has recently completed the course.
7 students achieved Units CS1 – CS2a; CS2b, 1 student achieved extra units CS4, CS5, CS7.
The training has been very beneficial to the young men in regards to working; they have an identity card; which lists their qualifications, which assists with insurance The student who has gone on to further units and obtained Units CS4, CS5 CS7 stated that “this was the best the thing,” he had “ever done.” and it has made “a huge difference” to him getting work.
The younger men, that we originally contacted and who put their names forward, were not reliable. We allowed those that were prepared to give a deposit and wanted to do the course to complete it. Rather than lose any module money which we did in the first round. 5 of those with qualification have families with young children, so it will make a huge difference to them. The men have now all purchased their own safety equipment we hope we can develop this project in the future
