Reviving the Hawking Basket: Stories of Gypsy Resilience and Shared European Heritage. Read our story  here
Heritage Open Days began in 1994 as England's contribution to the European Heritage Days initiative, now a vibrant pan-European celebration involving dozens of countries and for many years, the Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group (DGLG) did not participate, but once we discovered this festival, it quickly became an essential part of our calendar. Unlike Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) History Month in June, which can sometimes feel like presenting our history in an isolated "identity bubble," Heritage Open Days allows us to share our stories as an integral part of British and European history  ( In Britain since at least 1505) We are not separate—we belong to the wider tapestry of Europe's shared past and present. We have now held events every year for over a decade, often at our office or community spaces in Derbyshire.

Heritage Open Days:  We will be celebrating this September 2026  12th and 13th . Check back for more information
